The New Face of Futons

By:

For people just moving out on their own or heading off to college, the futon used to be the old standard. Posing as a poorly made and ugly couch by day and an uncomfortable joke of a bed at night, the futon did not necessarily build its reputation upon quality. But, for people without the means to go out and lay down a large chunk of money on a new bed, a futon was an affordable but uncomfortable solution to the bedding problem for millions of Americans.

However, the new age futons are not what you will consign to your house basement or any distasteful guest room and definitely not in the house backyard. They are proud addition to any tasteful home interiors. And it is all thanks to the innovation in their designing and enhancement in features.

Just like the old futon designs the new futons are essentially sofa beds but they are more comfortable and definitely more decorative. At the same time these futons are quite functional. They serve as comfortable couch to sit on during the day time and as comfortable functional bed during the night.

The new futons come with better back support. It is as good, if not better than the most expensive conventional mattresses. This superior back support of the new futons has significantly transformed the image of the futon. It is now considered much more than just a temporary solution to the bed situation.

The new futon has managed to remove all the shortcomings of the old futon. Its primary defect was the mattress that would become flat after use because it had a single layer of cotton. Now, futon mattresses have multiple layers including at least one layer of solid foam that gives it the bounce-back resilience for additional support. This subtle improvement has definitely contributed to the new image of futons today.

In addition to the mattress upgrade, the new futons are made out of solid frames that make it easy to convert the couch into the bed and back again. The best futons are made out of solid oak frames while some of the lower end models have steel frames. While the oak frames are more appealing to people with a traditional décor, the steel frames are still well made and do not detract from the appearance of the futon.

The versatility of the futon cover is another great feature of the new futons. Any time you feel like changing the décor in a room, you don't need to worry about the futon. Simply find a new cover that matches the new design scheme and put it on over the futon. It is much less expensive the upholstery or replacing the futon plus it makes the unit more versatile so it can be used in more locations.

Futons have quite easily left back their shoddy image of merely being a cheap, inexpensive, sofa bed. They have indeed made a comeback and become adaptable to the interior designing tastes of the modern homeowners with their innovative design enhancements. The quality issues have all been resolved and the decorative value added. Any new age home interior without a futon is definitely missing out on tasteful home interior addition and a restful sleep.
