Google, the company that is slowly but surely taking over the internet, has now invaded your mobile devices giving you a technology that borders that of the military. With the ability to retrieve data from a connect GPS the new version of Google Maps does the job of many other mapping programs that cost well over $200. The sleek and easy to use interface means that you won’t get lost under a plethora of useless features and by simply and quickly providing access to all of the key features such as zooming, moving the map around and finding a location, Google Maps surpasses some of the best GPS mapping software on the market. Google maps works by taking map data from their servers and downloading it directly onto your screen as you require it. As it only downloads the areas of the map you want it means that not only is the file size of the application small but it does not use that very many system resources which makes it fast. When it is synced with a GPS the map data you are seeing will be synced with your location providing you with a real time map of where you are. With this free software you are able to get a road map image of your exact location that is updated every second and you can even get a high resolution satellite image of your location as well. This allows you to see details that a normal road map might not show such as contour or the colour of a building. Furthermore, Google Maps has coverage of the entire planet so there is no need to pay extra money just to see a different country map. So what are some of the uses that Google maps might provide for you when combined with a GPS from EFrontier? Well when you use the software on a mobile device such as a PDA, laptop or even your Blackberry, you will have a mobile map that can help you in many ways. If you find yourself lost you will quickly be able to tell where you are and, more importantly, how to get back to where you are meant to be going! You can plan routes simply by giving the address of where you want to go which is very helpful if you are someone who likes activities such as geocaching. Google maps will also provide you with traffic updates in real time so if you are currently travelling through the city and you can see that the area is congested you can use the program to quickly find another route. If you happen to forget the address of the place you are trying to find Google Maps can still help you. Simply by entering the name of the business or shop Google will find it for you with its comprehensive list of locations and step-by-step directions to get there. To top this all off, you can save all of these routes and places making them very easy to get to next time. In order to get the most out of all of this functionality that Google Maps provides you will need some sort of mobile device. Google Maps currently works with nearly all PDAs, Palms, Laptops and even Blackberrys and it can even run on Java enabled mobile phones however one cannot usually connect a GPS to such a device which severely limits its usefulness. Once you have your GPS from EFrontier connected to your device all you need is an internet connection. Here is where the mobile phone comes in handy. By using the WAP or GPRS connection on your phone you can feed your mobile device the map data it needs to keep your map up to date. Alternatively you can use a wireless connection and get the same results. Once you’re up and connected to both internet and GPS then there is nothing left to it but start moving! With such a simple, yet powerful interface it removes all of the hassle of using a map and allows you to enjoy the trip rather than worry about it.
